Letterpress Printing: Personalised stationery / letterpress invitations and more...

Creating beautiful impressions via the age-old art of letterpress printing.

Letterpress invitations

The ancient art of letterpress adds an intriguing yet impressive quality to cards, brochures, wedding stationery and personalised stationery

Letterpress printing is the oldest method of printing. Over the years, letterpress has been replaced by more conventional, faster and more economical means of printing. However, letterpress printing to this day, offers a unique tactile feel and quality that cannot be reproduced with modern day printing techniques.

Images are inked onto paper by raised printing plates. The raised surface is inked and pressed into paper. Colours are more intense with letterpress as more ink is transferred to the paper in the process. Watermarx Graphics utilises steel backed photopolymer plates to create our letterpress printing plates and hence our letterpress inviations and letterpress stationery. The plates are exposed to a computer generated negative and washed out in water.  This process allows flexibility with design and fonts, allowing us to make plates from most computer generated art work.

There are a few key points to remember when designing letterpress invitations or other art work to be letterpress printed

  • Fine lines and small type can be achieved with great results.
  • When incorporating images, line art or solid shapes reproduce best.
  • It is your responsibility to check that your artwork is correct. Please check spelling and layout.
  • It is ideal if you provide us with a printout or PDF that shows what the final artwork should look like, this should alleviate the chance for misinterpretation of your file.
  • Please include all fonts used in your document to ensure we reproduce images as per your artwork. Alternatively, save fonts as outlines before saving and sending your file.
  • Please save all your artwork as black.
